[theqoo] PARK SEOJOON, SUING A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER? “NOT 6 BILLION BUT 60 MILLION”… COMMITTED MALICIOUS ACTS ft. INSTAGRAM

Posted on

Actor Park Seo-joon won a lawsuit against a restaurant owner who violated his publicity rights. However, he refuted claims that he demanded an astronomical sum of 6 billion won from a small business owner, stating that this was not true.

His agency, Awesome ENT, told iMBC Entertainment:

“Since 2019, we repeatedly requested the removal of advertisements, but the restaurant continued to re-upload portal site search ads and banners even after taking them down. Eventually, they stopped responding altogether, continuing these malicious actions, which led to the lawsuit.”

They added, “While the estimated damages, based on typical endorsement fees, could be as high as 6 billion won (4M USD), the actual claim filed was only 60 million won (40K USD), taking into account the scale of the defendant’s business and other circumstances.”

The agency continued, “We’ve also confirmed that secondary harm is occurring through malicious mockery and defamation regarding a legitimate court ruling. We will respond firmly to any acts that infringe on the actor’s publicity and personality rights, without leniency or settlement.”

The court ruled partially in favor of Park Seojoon, but only awarded 5 million won (3.7K USD) in damages.

1. Nobody is shielding him outside of Theqoo by the way

2. Don’t ever take any sponsorships again

3. But if the restaurant can’t even use the drama scenes for promotion, then why should they even cooperate with the filming of his drama in the first place?

4. But then all the dramas and movies Park Seojoon is in will be scared of him now

5. But they’ve been asking the restaurant to stop since 2019, and they didn’t so I don’t get the hate…

6. It’s my first time seeing someone sue a company for using a scene they agreed to sponsor in a drama… I can understand using CCTV of him visiting the restaurant as grounds for lawsuit, but they’re suing a drama who was sponsored as a background scene in a drama..?

7. From now on, just ask them to build a set for any drama you appear in. “Malicious act” ㅋㅋㅋㅋ They claimed estimated damages of 6 billion won (which is still being mentioned), filed a 60 million won lawsuit, and the court only awarded 5 million. Isn’t that clearly an overreaction from Park Seojoon? Probably 500 times more people feel negatively about his image today because of all this than those who even knew about the ad in the first place.

8. Seriously he’s being way too much here… His ‘goodwill’ public image is down the drain

9. “I don’t get how they’re claiming the damages are 6 billion won, and I also don’t get why they even filed a lawsuit over this ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

10. Just in what way is it causing damage for the celebrity’s image? It’s not like they claim he said the restaurant was delicious when he’s never been there

[theqoo] PARK SEOJOON’S INSTAGRAM RIGHT NOW

(t/n: there are more screenshots but we will just translate the comments)

– Legendary evil ㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷ

– Meanwhile this guy is so rich ㅋㅋ..

– What is this, Park Seojoon suing for 6 billion won just because a store hung up a banner? D*mn, even G-Dragon’s photos eating fish cake are used and he doesn’t say a word, but 6 billion? It was just a drama screenshot. Unbelievable. Park Se-joon, why are you so petty and vengeful for such a famous celebrity?

– From now onwards, just go build your own soy marinated crab restaurant set if you’re gonna act this petty ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

– He really filed a 6 billion won lawsuit against a small business owner???

– Wow so he’s someone who would spend 6 billion won to eat soy crab

– ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ you’re so impressive ^^

– Park crab owner-ssi, hello?

– Even though there are banners with the faces of ‘2 Days & 1 Night’ members all over the country, they don’t get sued..

– Suing an ordinary person for 6 billion won just looks like completely ignoring the public ㅠㅠ What on earth are they thinking?

– I enjoyed their crab at their restaurant today

– Soy crab

– But seriously, you’re ridiculous ㅋㅋㅋㅋ It seems like they just wanted to let people know where the drama was filmed, but meanwhile you have actors like that who think they’re such important people ㅋㅋ

Summary of the case:

  1. At a restaurant where Park Seojoon filmed a drama, multiple banners were made and displayed for six years using Park Seojoon’s name, saying “Park Seojoon ate and fell in love with the soy sauce marinated crab,” advertising the store along the road.

  2. Park Seojoon’s side requested that the advertisements be taken down. At first, the banners were taken down, but after a while, they were repeatedly put back up several times.

  3. Later, the restaurant even avoided phone calls and didn’t remove the banners.

  4. After enduring this for six years, Park Seojoon filed a lawsuit.

  5. The claim of a 6 billion won lawsuit is not true; it is evidence estimating the scale of damages by calculating 1 billion won per year for six years (totaling 6 billion won) to prove the harm suffered by Park Seojoon as a celebrity over those six years.

1. Please sue them Park Seojoon-ssi!!

2. Is 6 billion won an amount an individual can handle? Even if the store was rude, it seems way too excessive

3. What the? Why are they all siding with the assailant and bashing him?

4. I support him

5. Park Seojoon fighting

6. I don’t understand what wrong Park Seojoon did. Please sue the hate commenters

7. Who cares if other celebrities are okay with this? ㅋㅋ It’s his own property rights

8. I don’t understand why people are swearing at him

9. If he held back for 6 years, he must’ve really held back

10. I don’t think we should swear at him??
