6 Frighteningly Strong Deities Who Attempted to Erase Mankind in Anime

Posted on

Here are six of the most powerful gods in anime who have set out on a path toward humanity’s destruction.

6. God – Demon Lord Dante

God in Demon Lord Dante is an energy-based entity with no fixed physical form. He descended upon Earth and gradually became humanity’s greatest enemy. During the anime’s final stages, God triggered the Apocalypse by gathering fragments of memories and energy scattered throughout humans in order to restore himself to his complete state.

As the Apocalypse unfolded, humanity essentially destroyed itself, while God captured Saori and transformed her into a weapon against the demons. God ranks sixth because his actions directly led to humanity’s extinction, although in terms of conventional displays of raw destructive power, his feats are somewhat less overwhelming than those of the gods ranked above him.

5. Asura – Soul Eater

Asura, the first Kishin in Soul Eater, is the embodiment of fear and madness. After his resurrection, his plan is to spread the Madness Wavelength throughout the world, manipulating human minds until they descend into insanity while simultaneously triggering a series of natural disasters and catastrophic weather phenomena.

Kishin-level madness is capable of spreading across the entire planet, turning Asura’s influence into a global threat to humanity. He takes fifth place thanks to his ability to push the world toward chaos and mass destruction, although his direct destructive scale still falls short of the gods higher on this list.

4. Zeus – Record of Ragnarok

Zeus serves as the Chairman of the Council of Valhalla in Record of Ragnarok, where the gods gather to vote on whether humanity should be allowed to continue existing. After the decision to exterminate humankind is approved, Brunhilde invokes Ragnarok, giving humanity one final opportunity to survive through a tournament in which humans face the gods directly.

Zeus himself later enters the second round, facing Adam and demonstrating extraordinary speed, strength and endurance, along with his ultimate Adamas form. Although he ultimately defeats humanity’s first man, Zeus ranks fourth because his greatest displays of power are primarily centered on individual combat, while his actual destructive feats have yet to reach the planetary or cosmic scale of those ranked above him.

3. Tiamat – Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia

Tiamat is a primordial goddess who manifests as Beast II. In Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia, after awakening, she continuously produces countless Demonic Beasts and begins her advance to consume all of humanity.

Her Authority of the Beast grants Tiamat an overwhelming advantage against humans, while the Sea of Life provides her with an enormous source of magical energy and turns any living creature emerging from it into an enemy of humanity. Tiamat deserves third place because her very existence directly threatens the survival of humankind on an enormous scale, backed by abilities seemingly designed specifically for humanity’s destruction.

2. Hades – Saint Seiya

Hades is the ruler of the Underworld and one of the most terrifying divine antagonists in the entire Saint Seiya series. His plan goes far beyond simply defeating the goddess Athena or ruling Earth: the Greatest Eclipse is intended to permanently block out the Sun’s light, eventually freezing the planet and eradicating all life.

Possessing immense divine power and commanding an army of 108 Specters, Hades’ return always represents a planetary-scale catastrophe. He takes second place because both his power and his ultimate plan operate on a global scale, with the complete destruction of humanity and all life on Earth as the end goal.

1. Beerus – Dragon Ball Super

Beerus possesses perhaps the most formidable combination of overwhelming destructive power and the ability to control it. As Universe 7’s God of Destruction, he is capable of wiping out entire planets almost effortlessly. Earth itself once came dangerously close to destruction when Beerus arrived in search of the Super Saiyan God.

The subsequent battle between Beerus and Super Saiyan God Goku escalated to the point where their clashes threatened to shake and potentially destroy the entire universe. Although Beerus ultimately defeated Goku, he chose to show mercy and spare Earth from destruction.
