Fans in both Korea and Taiwan have been deeply moved by the unwavering grief of Koo Jun-yup following the tragic passing of his wife, Barbie Hsu, earlier this year.

Despite the extreme heat and summer rain, Koo Jun-yup has reportedly been visiting her grave every single day, with witnesses recounting heart-wrenching scenes of the artist quietly sitting beside the tombstone, reading, or gazing at old photos of Barbie Hsu on his tablet. One photo circulating online even shows a half-finished bowl of noodles left beside her grave — a quiet symbol of his overwhelming sorrow.

“I saw him there even during a torrential downpour,” said one netizen whose father’s grave is near Barbie Hsu’s. “Every time I went, he was already there, sitting alone.”

The tombstone is engraved with the words “Remember Forever” in English and “준준” (Junjun) in Korean — the affectionate nickname Barbie Hsu used for Koo Jun-yup. Such details only deepened the public’s emotional response.

Since Barbie Hsu’s unexpected passing in February 2025 due to pneumonia brought on by influenza, Koo Jun-yup has reportedly lost over 12 kilograms. Recent photos show a visibly thinner and sun-darkened man, sparking concern among fans.

Online communities have flooded with heartfelt comments:

  • “Please take care of your health. Barbie wouldn’t want to see you suffer like this.”
  • “This couple showed us what real love is. It’s heartbreaking.”
  • “Life is so cruel sometimes.”

Koo Jun-yup previously shared on his personal account, “On February 2, 2025, my angel returned to heaven. I’m going through a pain that feels like my intestines are being torn apart. I couldn’t speak, nor did I want to.”

Koo Jun-yup and Barbie Hsu reunited in 2022, 23 years after their first relationship in 1998, and their whirlwind romance led to a surprise marriage that captured hearts across Asia. The couple was nearing their third wedding anniversary when tragedy struck, making their love story even more poignant.
