A press screening for Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub (Tazza 4) was held at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Seoul on the afternoon of September 9. Lead actors Byun Yo Han and Roh Jae Won, along with director Choi Kook Hee, attended the event.
The final installment in the Tazza series, Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub (directed by Choi Kook Hee; distributed by CJ ENM and produced by Sidus), is based on Huh Young Man’s manhwa of the same name. The crime film follows Jang Tae Young (Byun Yo Han), a man who believed he had everything after building an online casino business, and his close friend Park Tae Young (Roh Jae Won), who shares the same name and takes everything away from him. The two eventually meet again in the global gambling world and face off in a high-stakes battle for revenge.
The Tazza franchise began with the 2006 film starring Cho Seung Woo and Kim Hye Soo, followed by Tazza: The Hidden Card (2014) and Tazza: One Eyed Jack (2019), earning widespread popularity. Arriving seven years after the previous installment, Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub has drawn particular attention for introducing a distinctive identity and an original world of its own.
While the previous three films released over the past 20 years shared the same universe, the final installment, Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub, is set in a completely independent universe. The film also presents a spectacular global gambling circuit spanning South Korea, Japan and Vietnam, while expanding beyond traditional gambling to explore the glamorous world of competitive hold’em.
Byun Yo Han said, “Before filming, the director gave me homework. He told me to ‘go on a diet.’ At the time, I weighed more than 80kg, so I lost more than 10kg. I didn’t measure my weight separately after that.” He added, “I worked extremely hard to build my body through weight training, cardio and diet. The scene only appears on screen for a few seconds, but I invested all my time and effort into preparing for it.”
In the film, Byun Yo Han also performs a steamy bed scene with Japanese actress Ayaka Miyoshi, who plays Kaneko. He explained, “For that scene, I did my best until the end of filming. I also stopped drinking and followed various diets.” He added that he believed the effort was connected to “the way Jang Tae Young’s life would be.”
Meanwhile, Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub is scheduled to hit theaters on September 23.
