Kim Minha Loses 17kg for Terminally Ill Role: “I’m Throwing Away My Scale When This Is Over”
Kim Minha reveals she lost 17kg to portray a terminally ill character and says she plans to throw away her scale as soon as filming ends.
On September 18, Uhm Jung Hwa’s YouTube channel released a video titled “I’ll Throw the Party. Who Wants to Drink the Wine? (w/ Jung Jae Hyung, Kim Wan Sun, Go Hyun Jung, Song Hye Kyo, Kim Jaejoong, Ahn Shin Ae, Kang Min Kyung, Kim Minha).”
Kim Minha was the first guest to arrive at the wine opening party hosted by Uhm Jung Hwa. After tasting the wine, she exclaimed, “It’s so delicious,” before turning to the busy Uhm Jung Hwa and asking, “Sis, how many bodies do you have?” referring to her packed schedule.
As they caught up on what they had been doing recently, Kim Minha revealed, “I’m currently filming a movie where I play someone who is terminally ill.” Referring to the 17kg Kim Minha had lost for the project, Uhm Jung Hwa said, “Minha went through so much to create a body that would suit a terminally ill character. You must be having a hard time. Take good care of yourself mentally.”
Kim Minha responded, “Seriously, as soon as this is over, I’m going to throw away my scale.” She then began, “Because of this weight, I…” before trailing off without finishing her sentence.
The reason behind her physical transformation lies in the story itself. Describing the upcoming film, Kim Minha explained that it follows “two people with limited time left to live who fall in love.” She added, “It’s beautiful and cute. But they’re so lovable that it makes it sad.” She continued, “It’s heartbreaking to see them struggle so hard to stay alive.”
