A South Korean singer and YouTuber in her 40s has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for killing her teenage daughter after a brutal assault that included pouring hot water over her head and leaving her without medical treatment despite severe burns.

The First Criminal Division of the Jinju Branch of Changwon District Court handed down the sentence to the woman, identified only as A, after she was found guilty of murdering her biological daughter.

A was accused of assaulting her 18-year-old daughter, identified as B, in Namhae County, South Gyeongsang Province, in September 2025. The victim, a first-year university student on a leave of absence, was allegedly left inside a vehicle for over two days after the assault and tragically passed away.

The prosecution’s indictment revealed that A attacked her daughter with various objects, leading to a scalp laceration and severe burns covering 27% of her body. Despite her daughter’s pleas for help, A did not provide necessary medical care and tried to conceal the abuse by leaving her in the vehicle.

The abuse was discovered when A brought her daughter to a hospital, where staff found extensive injuries and bruises. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as shock from physical trauma. Prosecutors sought the death penalty, citing A’s lack of remorse and high risk of reoffending.

In the final hearing, A’s defense argued against the death penalty, claiming she did not intend to kill her daughter. The court, however, condemned her actions and lack of remorse, ultimately sentencing her to 25 years in prison.
