Legal sources revealed on September 5 that in a lawsuit filed by Lee Seung Gi against Hook Entertainment, the Seoul Central District Court ruled in his favor on August 28. The court ordered Hook Entertainment to pay approximately 690 million won out of the 830 million won Lee Seung Gi had claimed.
Lee Seung Gi initiated the lawsuit in February, claiming that Hook Entertainment continued to profit from his music and albums after the expiration of his exclusive contract with the agency in December 2022. He then sought the settlement payments he believed were owed to him.
The settlement dispute between Lee Seung Gi and his former agency has been ongoing since November 2022.
Initially, Lee Seung Gi raised concerns about not receiving proper settlements for music-related revenue and filed criminal complaints against Hook Entertainment CEO Kwon Jin Young and current/former directors for alleged violations of economic laws.
Afterward, Hook Entertainment paid Lee Seung Gi a total of approximately 5.4 billion won, including settlement payments, unpaid settlements, and delayed interest. Subsequently, the agency filed a lawsuit seeking confirmation that no further debt existed to resolve the dispute, while Lee Seung Gi filed a countersuit for additional unpaid settlement payments.
In April of the previous year, the court ruled that Hook Entertainment must pay Lee Seung Gi an additional 580 million won, which included advertising fees. This ruling was not appealed by either party, making it final.
