‘New Recruit’ Actor Shocks Fans by Suddenly Sharing Handwritten ‘Suicide Note’: “To My Beloved Parents”
Jang Sung Bum startled fans by sharing a handwritten “suicide note,” before clarifying that it was a prop he wrote while filming New Recruit 4.
On September 18, Jang Sung Bum shared a photo on his personal account alongside the reassuring message, “It’s not a suicide note. You were surprised, right?”
The photo showed a letter with the word “Suicide Note” written at the top. Beginning with the words, “To my beloved father and mother,” the lengthy handwritten letter contained his feelings toward his parents as well as emotions experienced during military service. However, it was not a real suicide note, but a prop that Jang Sung Bum had personally written for filming the drama.
“Is everyone enjoying the drama?” Jang Sung Bum wrote. “While watching it, I suddenly remembered something and started looking through my phone gallery. That’s when I found the letter we used as a prop while filming New Recruit 4.”
He continued, “I remember that we were only given the circumstances of the scene, and each actor wrote their own letter exactly as they felt.”
Jang Sung Bum added, “Even though I knew it wasn’t real, once I started writing, I became completely focused and immersed in the letter. I still remember that vividly.” He continued, “Have any of you ever had the experience of writing something like a suicide note while serving in the military? It made my heart feel incredibly heavy. Still, it was a very meaningful experience during filming.”
Concluding his post, the actor asked viewers to continue supporting the series, writing, “You’ll stay with New Recruit 4 until the very end, right? Salute! I love you.”
