Singer and JYP Entertainment chief producer J.Y. Park testified at a National Assembly audit, addressing public concerns regarding his involvement with the Popular Culture Exchange Committee.

During the National Assembly Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee’s audit on October 7, Park, as co-chair of the Popular Culture Exchange Committee, faced questions about the trademark application for the entertainment project Fanomenon.

Rep. Bae Hyun-jin raised suspicions about JYP Entertainment filing for trademark rights for Fanomenon and expressed concerns about potential preferential treatment for the project involving JYP, YG, SM, and HYBE.

Park admitted to mistakes in the business agreement and assured a more careful approach in the future while refuting claims of special benefits from the government.

He mentioned that if the four companies’ artists held their own concerts instead of participating in Fanomenon, they could potentially earn more revenue.

Park revealed the challenges he faced in persuading the agencies to make sacrifices and highlighted the project’s long-term vision and benefits to other industries.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young defended the project’s structure, emphasizing collaboration and leveraging the global achievements of the entertainment agencies.
