[theqoo] ENHYPEN’S SUNGHOON RELEASES PERSONALLY DESIGNED FIGURINE → UNDER FIRE FOR PLAGIARIZING YEONJUN’S GGUM ft. PRICE

ENHYPEN member Sunghoon’s official merchandise has become embroiled in plagiarism allegations involving TXT’s Yeonjun’s solo album.

On August 24th, an image of an MD (merchandise) collection, which the ENHYPEN members directly participated in designing, was posted on HYBE’s official merchandise account, HYBE Merch.

Among the released MDs, member Sunghoon was directly involved in designing a hoodie zip-up and a figure set. However, despite his direct involvement, fans of Yeonjun raised suspicions of plagiarism, pointing out that the figure design closely resembles the figure album from Yeonjun’s solo mixtape “GGUM”, released in September last year.

In the related video, Sunghoon is seen saying, “Not long ago, I saw something, maybe a figure or keyring, and it looked really cute, so I wanted to do something like that. I carry around a lot of plushies,” and “If it’s a plushie, it would just be the face, but if it’s a person, then a figure,” as he discussed ideas for his MD.

Additionally, illustrator SLINKY (Lee Seung-hoon), who worked on Yeonjun’s “GGUM” figure album, did not participate in the design of Sunghoon’s official MD. Nevertheless, due to the many similarities  including the pose with hands in pockets, the hoodie outfit, as well as eye shapes and proportions, fans of TXT are criticizing the design, claiming it resembles Yeonjun’s work too closely.

If something looks good, they just copy it. Is that why they even started a label?
