Top 5 Must-See Horror Movies for Halloween 2026: Your Scarefest Line-up for October

Posted on

October has always been the month when horror movies take over, and 2026 is no exception.

Here are five of the most anticipated horror movies arriving this October.

5. Hallowarrior

Release Date: October 9, 2026

In Hallowarrior, the world may have ended, but the spirit of Halloween is still alive. Milly Shapiro—the actress who terrified audiences as Charlie in Hereditary—stars as Pumpkin, the last girl left alive after a deadly infectious disease wipes out humanity. Her lonely celebration of the holiday is interrupted when a brutal gang of raiders led by Thalia, played by Shannyn Sossamon, arrives.

Armed with weapons, candy, and a fierce determination to fight, Pumpkin must survive a terrifying night. Although the movie received plenty of praise following its Tribeca Film Festival debut for combining a cozy autumn atmosphere with spectacular kills, it only ranks fifth because it will skip theaters and premiere directly on Shudder.

4. Crawlers

Release Date: October 16, 2026

If spiders make your skin crawl, this may be one movie you will want to approach with caution. In Crawlers, an outbreak of venomous spiders forces police to place an entire apartment building under lockdown. No one can enter or leave, while the deadly creatures continue multiplying at an alarming rate.

Matilda Lutz, star of the thriller Revenge, plays Serena, the building manager who knows the property better than anyone but also happens to be terrified of spiders. Director Ángel Gómez Hernández keeps the action moving at a relentless pace throughout the movie’s 81-minute runtime, while its Red-Band trailer has already left plenty of viewers squirming.

3. Beware Boiúna

Release Date: October 2, 2026

Beware Boiúna draws inspiration from Amazonian folklore and transforms it into a full-blown monster movie. When a medical mission ventures deep into the rainforest, the group accidentally awakens Boiúna, an enormous ancient serpent that considers the entire river its territory.

The group is forced into a desperate fight for survival in a jungle where nature holds absolute power over life and death. Lionsgate has promoted the movie as a combination of Jaws and Anaconda. The cast includes Logan Marshall-Green and Happy Death Day star Jessica Rothe, while Mike P. Nelson, director of the Wrong Turn reboot, takes the helm.

2. Clayface

Release Date: October 23, 2026

DC Studios is taking an unprecedented step with Clayface, an R-rated body horror movie. Tom Rhys Harries stars as Matt Hagen, a rising Hollywood actor whose face is horribly disfigured. Desperate for a solution, he seeks help from a scientist played by Naomi Ackie.

However, her treatment gradually transforms his body into a mass of living clay, and everything begins spiraling out of control. The movie boasts an impressive creative team, with Mike Flanagan writing the screenplay, Speak No Evil director James Watkins behind the camera, and James Gunn, Peter Safran, and Matt Reeves serving as producers. It is one of the rare superhero-universe projects generating serious curiosity among both comic book and horror fans.

1. Other Mommy

No horror movie arriving this October has generated as much anticipation as Other Mommy. Based on Josh Malerman’s novel Incidents Around the House, the film follows a young girl named Bela, played by Arabella Olivia Clark, who is visited every night by a mysterious creature crawling out of her closet.

The creature looks exactly like her mother, played by Jessica Chastain, and repeatedly whispers a disturbing question: “Can I go inside your heart?” The movie is directed by Rob Savage, known for Host and The Boogeyman, with horror heavyweight James Wan involved in production through Blumhouse and Atomic Monster. With an Oscar-winning star and a powerhouse horror team behind it, Other Mommy easily takes the No. 1 spot on this list.
